Mining with Integrity
Copper Mountain mines with integrity for a sustainable future. We put words into action through our dedication to transparency, open dialogue, and continuous improvement. We are also driven by our alignment and compliance with national and international standards, best practices and agreements. We strive to practice responsible mining while producing the materials essential to a future built on sustainable energy. That’s why we are committed to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2035.
Copper Mountain’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles are integral to our entire organization. They are the foundation of our corporate strategy and are critical to the safe, sustainable production of copper, which is a vital resource in green technologies such as wind and solar energy and electric vehicles.
We continuously strive to do better. This model delivers ongoing shared value for all stakeholders and minimizes our impact on the environment for long-term success and a more sustainable future.
Innovation is key to our ESG principles. To reach our goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2035, it is necessary to shrink our carbon footprint throughout our operations and apply innovative technology to reduce environmental impact. We are fully aligned with the Government of B.C. and the Government of Canada’s commitment to advancing its clean-growth agenda as well as the Paris Climate Accords.
Towards Sustainable Mining
Copper Mountain is driven by our ambition to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2035 and to serve as an example for the mining industry.
Central to that mission is our enduring commitment to the standards set in Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM), a social and environmental mining program created by the Mining Association of Canada. Our dedication to the TSM program reflects a duty to operate at the highest standards while still striving for continuous improvement.
TSM provides a management framework of best practices as well as rigorous, third-party assessments of our social and environmental performance. Furthermore, the program ensures transparency through independently validated and publicly reported performance.
We believe in the TSM as an industry-transforming program. It encourages aggressive sustainability goals, fosters genuine community engagement, and fuels continuous improvement with thorough performance tracking. The TSM is regarded as a global standard in sustainable and responsible mining and has been adopted by mining associations around the world, including Australia.
We are targeting a minimum ‘A’ or ‘Yes’ rating in 2021 on all TSM protocols
